WHOLE FOODS MARKET – DISCOUNTS FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Whole Foods Market, a US retailer specializing in natural and organic products, recently partnered with the LivingSocial website to offer a special promotion of one million discount coupons worth 50% off. The initiative was very well received by users of the group purchase platform, which features a wide range of deals to consumers throughout the world. Brilliant.
With every $10 purchase, consumers received $20 in store coupons while the retailer also donated 50¢ to the Whole Kids Foundation. Consumers could enjoy savings while contributing to a good cause devoted to fighting childhood obesity. It was the first time a national grocer offered such a deep discount across its sales outlets.
Since LivingSocial remains under-utilised by major retailers, this strategy could be a game changer. The discount was a best-seller among website members who clicked upwards of 115,000 times an hour — making it the largest promotion of its kind on any group purchase platform.
